Turkey News

Have the leaves on the trees fallen already? Have you had to get your big winter jacket out of the closet? If yes, then you know that means THANKSGIVING is coming up, and you deserve a treat with a some interesting/hilarious info from the music world!

Let’s start it off with anniversaries, as Saturday, Scarlett Johansson and Miley Cyrus (!) will be 24 and 16. Although one does not deserve to be talked about after all that we hear from her already, the other definitely should be mentioned as her release from last May is pure bliss in this autumn weather. Anywhere I Lay My Head features covers of her friend Tom Waits’ songs, with a few collaborations from producers Dave Sitrek (TV On The Radio) and David Bowie. The album, despite meeting mixed reviews (1/5 from The Times?!), is simple and beautiful in a non-descript way, and it makes you appreciate even more the wait until winter snow. Read the rest » »

Fall Out Boy Interview/World Record Attempt

November 18th, 2008 @ 10:54 pm :: Filed Under: DJs, Fall Out Boy, Front Page, WBRU ::
youre just jealous because they are young and in love

Several weeks ago I saw this insane news story about how Fall Out Boy, in wake of their failed attempt to break a world record by playing concerts on all seven continents, were going to attempt a different record, do the largest number of radio interviews in a single 24 hour period. Being the 15 year old girl that I am I immediately thought one thing: WBRU needs to get one of these interviews.* So last week when my good friend DJ GQ informed me she had secured one and was giving it to me, so began a week filled with frantic question writing and dry heaving. Interview and more after the jump. Read the rest » »

Photos of Triangle Forest at WBRU

Triangle Forest came through the studio yesterday for a live performance and brief interview with Bart. They talked about their show at AS220 tonight and played through three songs including “Spanish Eyes” and “Robot Sings for the Master.” It was an awesome experience to see them play an all electronic set in the studio with very little audible sound only to walk into a different room with a radio and hear it explode with music. Check out these photos! Read the rest » »

After-Halloween News

November 8th, 2008 @ 1:03 pm :: Filed Under: Contests, Entertainment News, News, News Updates, Providence, Radiohead, U2 ::

In case you were listening to Vampire Weekend, Smashing Pumpkins or even the “Goo Fighters” all weekend (no pun intended), you missed some very important indie rock news! Here’s a little recap.

1. Led Zeppelin will tour the world (but without Robert Plant…) after the release of their new album (see Lola’s article below). Rumor’s out that Aerosmith’s own Steven Tyler might take over the job!

2. The Jackson 5 will also reunite, and also without their lead singer Michael Jackson, who apparently is working on his own album and couldn’t take the time off with his family…

3. Remember that tower in Dublin that Bono and his U2 mates were going to build? Well the economic crisis unfortunately wiped those plans away, but I’m sure the band will be fine in one of their numerous other houses around the capital. (Apparently, they also each have a plan to be redesigned by a famous architect… Maybe Bono isn’t such of a Third-World partisan after all…)

4. Radiohead’s new video Reckoner, the fourth single from In Rainbows, hit the web’s waves in a delicious dreamy after-party style, full of all those details fans will love (violins, harmonics and Thom Yorke’s high-pitched notes).

5. Unlike the Killers playing a surprise gig in London, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones will showcase for New Year’s Eve at Lupo’s!!!

See y’all then!!

WBRU’s October Playlist

October 26th, 2008 @ 9:35 pm :: Filed Under: Arctic Monkeys, Beck, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Front Page, Music, One Day as a Lion, Paramore, Smashing Pumpkins, WBRU, Weezer ::

After a week of numerous new releases, and before Christmas shopping (OK maybe not yet, but still), here is WBRU’s playlist of the month, full of all our favorite songs, for your own enjoyment!

Kings of Leon- Sex on Fire

  • Although the lyrics are slightly repetitive, this is some great passionate alt-rock. If the guitars don’t get you jumping, then Caleb Followill’s voice will entrance you.

The Offspring- You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid

  • What a comeback! After “Hammerhead”, the band hit the airwaves hard once again with their unchanging, inimitable, unforgiving style.

Weezer- Troublemaker

  • Lead singer Rivers Cuomo said this song was heavily influenced by Eminem, but rock fan out there, do not fret : “Troublemaker” is so powerful you will want to make some of your own.
