Chris Berman on 9-11

September 13th, 2008 @ 3:45 pm :: Filed Under: News, News Podcasts, Sports Podcasts ::

It’s safe to say that just about anyone who was alive and old enough on September 11, 2001 remembers where they were when they heard about the terrorist attacks. The falling of the Twin Towers, the burning Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania are burned into are national mindset as examples of tragedy and courage.

It was no different for famous people.

On 9-11 all major professional American sports were suspended and ESPN’s sports reporters spent most of their time reporting what seemed more like “news.”

Legendary ESPN Broadcaster Chris Berman, who worked for WBRU in the late 70s shortly before he went to ESPN, was about to board a flight to call a baseball game. He shared his memory of that day and what it means to him now with BRU News’ George Mesthos.

Justin Masterson’s name was thrown around a lot this past off-season. He was thought to be part of trade for Johan Santana, then a possible late-season spot-starter or reliever in light of Curt Schilling’s injury. Masterson has been a revelation over his first 4 starts for the Red Sox, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.59 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. Kaitlyn Laabs sat down with Masterson to talk about his whirlwind season.
