WBRU’s November Playlist
November 25th, 2008 @ 7:37 pm :: Filed Under: Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, Front Page, Jack White, Monthly Playlist, Music, One Day as a Lion, Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, The Raconteurs, Weezer ::Announcing the next installment of WBRU’s monthly playlist - because turkey and mashed potatoes go best with a side of brand-new alt rock.
Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire
- After over the month at the top of our playlist, apparently Caleb Followill’s sex is still on fire. No word yet on whether or not he’s getting that checked out.
Coldplay - Lost!
- One of the best tracks from Coldplay’s latest LP that is finally getting some attention. The awesome percussion throughout should be enough to help you find your way back to this song no matter what else you’re listening to.
Weezer - Troublemaker
- Rivers Cuomo’s catchiest midlife crisis song since “The Good Life”? There’s no doubt. The meaning of “keep it on the up” is a little more open to interpretation.
Death Cab For Cutie - Cath…
- Ben Gibbard turns a heartbreaking story into a song you want to sing at the top of your lungs. But what else is new?
Paramore - Decode
- Whether you’re a Twilight fan or not, Paramore’s new single is all the glory of Hayley Williams’ voice with a haunting twist that you’re sure to enjoy.
Rise Against - Re-Education (Through Labor)
- References to Communist China have never rocked guitar this hard, and watching the music video will satisfy a Dark Knight/Fight Club craving you didn’t know you had.
The Offspring - You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid
- Nowhere in this song do the lyrics call for a video that involves peasants and golden guitars, but as long as it’s backed by that good old Offspring sound, we don’t care how much of a non sequitur the visuals are.
Smashing Pumpkins - G.L.O.W.
- All of the jack-o-lanterns from Halloween have been smashed and are on their way to becoming pies, so what better time for a new Pumpkins song? Parts of this song have been in the works since 1995, and the finished product is well worth the decade-and-a-half journey.
One Day As A Lion - Wild International
- This powerful and catchy track from One Day As A Lion’s popular EP promises to be as unique as the Mars Volta-Rage Against the Machine hybrid that produced it.
Bloc Party - One Month Off
- Part of the steady stream of singles British indie rockers Bloc Party have been putting out from their third album, Intimacy.
Anberlin - Feel Good Drag
- Now that Anberlin has made its debut on a major label, it has decided to re-record one of its older songs. Score one for older fans, who can hear the mixing quality improve, and for newer fans, who can experience it for the first time.
Franz Ferdinand - Ulysses
- This song’s incredible techno beat will make you want to get up and dance, if the idea of a new Franz Ferdinand song doesn’t do that to you already.
MGMT - Kids
- Apparently just about everyone thinks this song is maddeningly catchy. In fact, the Kooks recently covered it at an Australian show. Hey, Luke Pritchard, do you wanna…ask permission first?
The Raconteurs - Consoler of the Lonely
- Because Jack White just can’t stop making music. Ever. This time it’s the first track from the Raconteurs’ similarly titled Consolers of the Lonely.
The Killers - Spaceman
- The second single from the amazing Day & Age, released on November 24th. It’s like “Human”, but with better guitar…and a spacesuit.
Best of the rest: Tokyo Police Club - Your English Is Good
- We’re honored they paid us a visit.
