Have you had to get your big winter jacket out of the closet? If yes, then you know that means THANKSGIVING is coming up, and you deserve a treat with a some interesting/hilarious info from the music world!
Let’s start it off with anniversaries, as Saturday, Scarlett Johansson and Miley Cyrus (!) will be 24 and 16. Although one does not deserve to be talked about after all that we hear from her already, the other definitely should be mentioned as her release from last May is pure bliss in this autumn weather. Anywhere I Lay My Head features covers of her friend Tom Waits’ songs, with a few collaborations from producers Dave Sitrek (TV On The Radio) and David Bowie. The album, despite meeting mixed reviews (1/5 from The Times?!), is simple and beautiful in a non-descript way, and it makes you appreciate even more the wait until winter snow.Second of all, going back to the classics, Michael Jackson has reportedly become a Muslim. Ok, so this isn’t that surprising from the ex-King of Pop, but I still would be interested in seeing him donning the “Islamic clothing” he had for the celebration last week! In other news, the BBC has discovered a videotape of a ‘69 interview of George Harrison, the “silent” Beatle, that has been estimated at $350,000 (anybody interested?)
Back to real stuff that pertains to YOU, don’t forget to print your free Dr. Pepper coupon Sunday on the website (here), given for the release of Guns of Roses’ album Chinese Democracy. See Lola’s in depth article on the story here.
This just in : Radiohead is premiering three new videos on Myspace during the week, as part of a cartoon animation contest to accompany their already critically acclaimed In Rainbows. Go fetch!
To wrap it up, just a reminder on the crazy concerts coming up for WBRU’s Birthday Bash:
SHINY TOY GUNS-this Wednesday night (11/26),
GIRL TALK-this Saturday night (11/29),
MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE-Saturday, December 6th.
Add to that impressive list:
FRANZ FERDINAND/VAMPIRE WEEKEND/BLACK KIDS at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre- December 6th and 7th.
and WU-TANG CLAN-Friday 1/9,
Now you’ve got yourself quite a few ideas of what to do to relax before the Christmas craze!
