Really? So this means Damon Albarn’s moving on from Monkeys? Wait, what?
Albarn, the co-creator of Gorillaz (with Jamie Hewlett) has been all over the map since the last Gorillaz release, Demon Days, in 2005. After fronting the British supergroup that released The Good, the Bad, and the Queen, he created a Chinese opera and went on a reunion tour with Blur.
And now he’s back behind the facade of 2D, Murdoc, Noodle, and Russel, making “the most pop record [he's] ever made.” For the record, I don’t think he means “pop” in the Top-40, mainstream, BS sense. He explains in an interview with The Guardian that he makes Gorillaz albums to push the boundaries of pop, to make something new, and to escape the malaise that has afflicted pop over the past several years.
Check out the interview with The Guardian here. Be warned, though – it’s two older British guys talking in an empty room for about forty minutes. That’s about as exciting as it gets, right? They even engage in a thorough discourse on psychotherapy. Blech.

You were so right, “Plastic beach” is out for about 10 days and I’ve absolutely loved “Stylo”! Great meaning wrapped in Gorillaz sound!
