Metric electrify Lupo’s, leave crowd energized

Last Thursday night, Canadian rockers Metric positively rock-and-rolled the stage at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in downtown Providence. From beginning with a bang via a fabulous and dazzling light show, the band never ran out of energy and power throughout the set. The powerful guitars and steady bass and drums, not to mention the essential keyboards and tambourines, were pulsating all the while. But it was frontwoman Emily Haines who was the main attraction, always on her feet dancing and head-banging, if not plugging away on the guitar or keyboards. Highlights included the hits “Help I’m Alive,” “Stadium Love,” and “Satellite Mind,” but the venue was shaking – in a good way – the whole night as the sound power-alternative-rock drowned the crowd in awe and electricity. Opener Wildlight was delightful as well, but it was the main act that took people’s breath away and left them sparked. I’m so grateful that Metric love playing for WBRU and our fans and can’t wait until they come back again. I just wish I knew where Haines got her shiny leathery pants and where I can get some for myself.
