Andrew Bird has recently been working on a few interesting and somewhat unexpected projects.
This renaissance man recently confirmed that he is going to be scoring the upcoming movie Norman, starring Adam Goldberg and Richard Jenkins. Although the thought of Andrew scoring this film seems appealing, I find it unlikely that he will actually end up successfully completing the project. Many artists are unable to score movies because they lose so much of their creative freedom and remain at the mercy of the director. Will Andrew Bird be able to compromise some of his own artistic vision for the greater metaphorical purpose of Norman? That, as of now, remains to be seen.
In other news, Andrew Bird, perhaps to pull attention away from Sesame Street’s 40th birthday, will be releasing a cover of the classic hit “It’s Not Easy Being Green,” which will be featured on the forthcoming album Muppets Revisited. (Weezer also recorded Rainbow Connection on the same album.)
Last, but certainly the most intriguing, Andrew Bird is involved with an art installation where “this sculptor in Chicago makes these horns that I play through– they are like speakers– to create a whole installation, a room full of these horns that are shaped like poppies, making loops that come out of different horns.” I’m sure this BBC interviewer had some trouble keeping a straight face during the session.
Where will these escapades take our friend? Only time can tell.
